Yesterday was a big day for the Jeb's Reptiles family, as I brought home a new gecko from the Cleveland Reptile Show & Sale! He is a high red Paroedura picta, commonly known by many names including Panther Gecko, Ocelot Gecko, and Madagascar Ground Gecko. I have never kept this species before, but care is quite similar to the more popular leopard geckos, just smaller and at lower temperatures.
I named this new baby Fox, after Fox Mulder from the X-Files, continuing with my science fiction theme for naming my geckos. I am keeping him in a simple sterilite tub for now, and I will post a guide to build this inexpensive baby setup on my terrariums page soon. This baby is only a few months old but already has some nice pattern and is a voracious cricket eater. Fox will probably be one of the first geckos I try to breed because Panther Geckos are such prolific breeders and don't require much space. In the meantime, I am excited to get to know this charismatic little baby! I'll post more pictures and updates soon but right now I'm trying to leave him alone except for feeding, weighing, etc.
